Violinists Frank Ho and Vladimir Rufino join violist Fabiola Amorim in Dialogues, an album that explores the richness and versatility of the string trio through a repertoire that spans periods and styles. Bringing together tradition and innovation, the recording offers sensitive and technically refined interpretations of established works alongside newly commissioned pieces written specifically for the ensemble.
The program opens with Antonín Dvořák’s Terzetto in C Major, Op. 74, a work full of vitality, lyricism, and rhythmic drive across its four movements. It is followed by two contemporary works composed especially for the trio — Semitragic Waltz by Robert Rival and Devil’s Garden by Peter Jancewicz — which expand the album’s aesthetic scope with dramatic atmospheres, intense gesture, and a strong narrative sense. The selection is completed by the elegant and expressive Serenade for Two Violins and Viola, Op. 12 by Zoltán Kodály, combining structural sophistication with rich folkloric elements.
The performers have well-established careers in Canada and abroad. Frank Ho has appeared at Alice Tully Hall (New York) and the Royal Festival Hall (London), is a Yale graduate, and teaches at three Canadian universities. Vladimir Rufino holds a PhD from the University of Alberta, with a career focused on chamber music and Brazilian and Canadian repertoire. Fabiola Amorim, also a PhD graduate from the same institution, works as a violist and researcher with a focus on Brazilian music. Together, the three musicians share extensive pedagogical and artistic experience, collaborating regularly with orchestras and educational institutions in Alberta, Canada.
Dialogues invites listeners into a musical conversation that transcends time, tradition, and genre — an artistic journey marked by expressiveness, balance, and the timeless beauty of the string trio.
