Karin Fernandes

The pianist Karin Fernandes was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and participated in specialization courses in Portugal with Maria João Pires, in France with pianist Bernard Flavigny, and in England as a full scholar at the Third Oxford International Piano Festival/2001, where she had masterclasses with Menahem Pressler, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Oxana Yablonskaya, Maria Curcio, and Cristina Ortiz. In Brazil, Karin was a student of Lina Pires de Campos, expanding her musical knowledge in her home country.

As a soloist, she has performed with the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra, Campinas Symphony Orchestra, OSUSP, OSESP, Camerata OSESP, Ensemble Cairn (France), Sinfonia Cultura, São Paulo State Symphonic Band, São Pedro Theater Orchestra, Sergipe Symphony Orchestra, and National Symphony Orchestra (Paraguay), among others. She is also an active recitalist, with frequent performances in Europe (England, France, Germany, and Portugal) and South America (Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay). Recently, she completed her third European tour, with recitals in Berlin and Paris.

The pianist has won first place in 21 piano competitions in Brazil and achieved first place in the important and highly competitive 10th Eldorado Music Prize in 1999. In 2015, her album “Cria – Nova Música Brasileira para Piano, Vol. I” received the Concerto Award for Best CD of the Year in Brazil. The following year, her album “Seresta, Choro e Homenagem a Fructuoso Vianna,” featuring piano and orchestra pieces by Camargo Guarnieri, was a finalist in the Best Classical Album category at the prestigious 27th Brazilian Music Award, competing with two other CDs, both from OSESP. In April 2017, the pianist was recognized as the Best Classical Instrumentalist at the Professionals of Music Award. In 2019, the third album of her trio, titled “Trio Puelli,” which presents the complete recording of Radamés Gnatalli’s Piano Trios, was chosen as the CD of the Year by the Concerto Award.
