Marcelo Barboza

Equally respected for the solidity of his orchestral work and the versatility of his solo projects, Marcelo Barboza serves as the principal flautist of the São Paulo Municipal Theater Symphony Orchestra and is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in London.

He was a flutist with OSESP from 1994 to 2002; concurrently, he maintained a constant activity as a soloist in Europe. Living in Sweden, he performed at the Royal Opera of Stockholm, the Odense Chamber Orchestra, and the Carl Nielsen Philharmonic. He returned to Brazil in 2006 to take up his position at the Municipal Theater.

His flute teachers were Mikhail Malt, Jean Noel Saghaard, and at USP, Antônio Carlos Carrasqueira. He studied with William Bennett, Sebastian Bell, Richard Taylor, and Lisa Beznosiuk (baroque flute) at the Royal Academy of Music and holds a Master’s degree from the University of London in England.

Marcelo is a flute professor at FAAM in São Paulo, has given courses at the Stockholm, Piteå, and Odense academies, and at most Brazilian festivals, including Campos do Jordão and Virtuosi de Recife. Within an intense chamber music activity, his duos with guitarist Fábio Zanon and pianist Clélia Iruzun stand out.
