From a distinctive interpretive perspective, the composer alternates between original works and arrangements of traditional classical repertoire for two guitars.
Nicholas Abdo studied composition with Osvaldo Lacerda and classical guitar at FIAM-FAAM under the guidance of Henrique Pinto and Celso Mojola. He later completed postgraduate studies in composition at the Carlos Gomes Institute. Drawing on his extensive academic background and professional experience, Abdo invited Duo Maia, founded in 2007 by twin brothers Raphael and Thadeu Maia, to perform and record ORIGINS.
The album traces the composer’s artistic journey from his youth to maturity, engaging with themes of identity, personal development, and memory. The project is further enriched by refined arrangements of Felix Mendelssohn’s Albumblatt in E Minor, Op. 117, and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Moments musicaux, Op. 16, No. 3. These arrangements preserve the emotional intensity of the original works while presenting them from a renewed aesthetic perspective.
