Uaná Barreto

Uaná Barreto holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Piano Performance from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), where he studied under Professor Dr. Luciana Noda. His musical trajectory spans both classical and popular realms. In the field of concert music, he has performed in numerous recitals and taken part in masterclasses with renowned Brazilian and international pianists such as Maria José Carrasqueira, Ricardo Ballestero, and David Korevaar.

In the realm of Brazilian popular music, Barreto has developed an intense body of work as a researcher, composer, and arranger for piano, establishing a long-term partnership with the Instituto Piano Brasileiro, which has published his original arrangements of works by Guinga, Chico Buarque, and Baden Powell. His compositions have been performed in major concert venues, including Sala Guiomar Novaes (Rio de Janeiro), Teatro Municipal de Uberlândia (Minas Gerais), and the University of Örebro (Sweden). He was the winner of the 2nd José Siqueira Composition Competition with his work Divertimento for Clarinet and Orchestra.

As a performer, he has shared the stage in João Pessoa with artists such as Leila Pinheiro, Cátia de França, Márcio Bahia, Nailor Proveta, Marcelo Martins, Letieres Leite, Luca Raele, Ilessi, and Carol Panesi. In 2014, he toured Senegal with the Brazilian singer Glaucia Lima, and in 2018 participated in the 2nd Brazilian Musical Improvisation Seminar in Florianópolis, where he studied Universal Music with the multi-instrumentalist Itiberê Zwarg. The following year, he toured France with the Afro-Brazilian ensemble Berimbaobab.

In 2020, he studied Brazilian piano performance with André Marques at the 37th Curitiba Music Workshop and taught a workshop on Piano in Northeastern Brazilian Music at Florida State University (USA). He currently teaches piano at the Escola Estadual de Música Anthenor Navarro and at the Federal Institute of Paraíba, both in João Pessoa, Brazil.
