Italian harpist Paola Baron and Brazilian violinist Edgar Leite form Duo Arcos, now presenting their new album Solos & Encores, available on all digital platforms. Featuring a repertoire of celebrated works from European Romanticism and Impressionism, the duo offers luminous and heartfelt interpretations, reviving the lyricism and elegance of the classical tradition through the original encounter of harp and violin.
Paola Baron holds a Master’s degree from the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, a PhD in Musicology from UNESP, and won the International Competition of the Slovenian Harp Association. She has served as principal harpist with orchestras such as the Ljubljana Opera and Ballet Theatre, and currently performs with the São Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra while teaching at EMESP. Edgar Leite earned his Bachelor’s degree from UNESP and a Master’s from Lynn University (USA), studying with renowned violinists. He has been concertmaster of ensembles such as the Philharmonia Orchestra at Lynn University and teaches at Faculdade Santa Marcelina and Instituto Baccarelli.
Following their debut Autre temps, which explored the timbral universe of Bach and French Impressionism, Solos & Encores emerges from a complementary impulse: the search for lightness and spontaneity. The duo revisits melodies that have accompanied their musical journey, including Meditation from Thaïs (Massenet), Sicilienne (Fauré), and Mahler’s Adagietto from Symphony No. 5. The program also features orchestral transcriptions and works originally written for piano and violin, refined and sensitively adapted for their formation.
Highlights include Gluck’s Dance of the Blessed Spirits and Monti’s Czardas, showcasing both the expressiveness and virtuosity of the performers. With works by Debussy, Paganini, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Tchaikovsky, the album offers listeners a sonic journey through emblematic pages of the classical-romantic repertoire, with performances that balance technical mastery and musical affection.
