Mozart: Sonatas for Piano and Violin, Vol. 1

After playing Mozart’s Sonata for piano and violin in E minor, K 304 together, conductor and violinist Claudio Cruz and pianist Olga Kopylova saw an excellent opportunity to enter, as a duo, in the universe of the famous Austrian composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Interpreting Mozart’s sonatas for violin and piano requires intense preparation, detailed study of stylistic particularities, and a solid experience and artistic maturity of the instrumentalists. Undoubtedly, these are predicates which are not lacking in the duo, who are internationally renowned musicians.

Even so, the challenge is remarkable: Divided into several volumes, separated chronologically, the sonatas will contemplate the composer’s early and mature phases, with 36 works to be recorded in a period of two years. Starting the series in this first volume, Cruz and Kopylova present the sonatas K 301, K 302, K 303, K 304, K 305 and K 306, the latter with three movements, unlike the others, which have only two movements each. “Mozart’s style is known for the clarity and brilliance of ideas, simple and easily assimilated melodies, light textures and virtuosity. Claudio is an exceptional musician, with whom I have absolute confidence in sharing this project” – Olga Kopylova
