The young composers collective New Frequency releases its fourth original album, Opus 4 – A Still Place for Harp and Violin, under the artistic direction of João Marcondes. The group explores the expressive possibilities of chamber music with creative freedom, bringing together works that prioritize serene listening, lyricism, and contemplation.
In this new project, the pieces revolve around the combination of harp and violin—instruments that together create an atmosphere of stillness and introspection. The harp’s reflective timbre offers a subtle harmonic foundation that intertwines with the violin’s melodic lines, which flow with lightness and fluidity. This aesthetic approach guides the listener into a space of delicacy and sensory immersion.
The opening piece, Overture – The Voice of God – Pt. 1, by João Marcondes, sets the tone of the album with its minimalist writing and literary-musical atmosphere. Next, Sob a Luz da Lua, by João Paulice, expands this poetic universe through a sensitive and dreamlike musical narrative. Vergessen (Brazilian Waltz), by Pedro Saikali, proposes a fusion of Celtic and Brazilian elements in the form of a waltz, exploring multiculturalism as an artistic language. Together, the works form a collection of compositions that traverse a wide spectrum of emotions—from bucolic lyricism and introspection to melodic and rhythmic fluidity that evokes varied images and sentiments.
The album features renowned performers from the Brazilian symphonic scene: harpist Sole Yaya, member of the São Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra and professor at EMESP Tom Jobim; and violinist Ricardo Takahashi, principal at the Bachianas SESI-SP Orchestra, violinist of OSUSP, and professor at the Municipal School of Music of São Paulo. With artistic refinement and interpretative sensitivity, the musicians bring unity to the repertoire and enhance the expressive power of the works presented.
