In this album, the composer and conductor presents a work that associates each season of the year with a geographic region of Brazil, performed by the La Salle Soloists Orchestra and violinist Cármelo de los Santos.
THE BRAZILIAN FOUR SEASONS travels through the Amazonian Spring (Dawn), the Pampean Winter (Sunset), the Pantanal Autumn (Waters), and the Northeastern Summer (Dances). Through sonic elements that evoke natural and human phenomena, the work proposes an aesthetic counterpoint to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Piazzolla’s Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas, from a distinctly Brazilian cultural perspective. Rounding out the album are the Concerto for Violin and Strings in three movements, the Elegia Fantasia for Strings, and the Brazilian Suite for Solo Violin in five movements, a work that fuses northeastern Brazilian music and the Baroque in a singular compositional language.
Born in Santa Maria, Brazil, Cervo studied at the Federal Universities of Rio Grande do Sul and Bahia, the University of Washington (Seattle), and the Accademia Chigiana (Siena).
