Compositores Brasileiros: Duos para Violino e Viola

COMPOSITORES BRASILEIROS: DUOS PARA VIOLINO E VIOLA came from a partnership between violinist Claudio Cruz and violist Gabriel Marin, featuring an anthology of musical pieces by Brazilian composers written for duos, between 1946 and 2008. It is a specific repertoire and almost completely unprecedented in recordings, made possible by PROAC.

Longtime friends, the artists have been partners for many years in the award-winning Carlos Gomes Quartet, which has promoted a great integration and harmony between them. In the repertoire, important works by great Brazilian classical composers, such as Heitor Villa-Lobos, Claudio Santoro, César Guerra-Peixe, Ernani Aguiar, and Liduino Pitombeira are performed with sensitivity and consistence by the experienced musicians. One of the highlights is the remarkable Duo for Violin and Viola, composed in 1946 by Villa-Lobos, in a rare phonographic record.

“I’ve known Gabriel since he was a teenager – and even at the time he was a special violist. I remember talking to other teachers at the Campos do Jordão Festival about the great musicality of this young man, who already showed a lot of musical maturity. Nowadays, he is considered one of the greatest Brazilian violists. COMPOSITORES BRASILEIROS: DUOS PARA VIOLINO E VIOLA will be a very special release, which I hope you all enjoy. It’s rare to see albums for violin and viola, especially in Brazilian music”, Claudio Cruz.
