New Brazilian Music Vol. II

New Brazilian Music Vol. II continues the acclaimed series initiated in 2015, whose first volume was awarded “Album of the Year” by Revista Concerto, both by critics and popular vote. A prominent figure in Brazilian concert music, pianist and composer Karin Fernandes has won 21 national piano competitions, including the prestigious 10th Prêmio Eldorado de Música (1999).

In this new album, Fernandes performs 20 solo piano works by contemporary Brazilian composers, including Marisa Rezende, Rodrigo Lima, Silvio Ferraz, Rodolfo Valente, Rita Moura Fortes, Heber Schünemann, and Gregório Calleres, as well as two original compositions by Fernandes herself: Um Metro de Grito: I. Um Adeus de Plástico e Metal and II. Tempo-Kintsugi. The repertoire spans works composed between 2001 and 2024, presenting a broad spectrum of current aesthetic approaches to piano composition, including electroacoustic interventions, prepared piano, and extended techniques.

The first single, Sete Poemas para Piano: VII. Cascata, by brazilian composer Rodrigo Lima, will be released on May 30. Dedicated to Karin Fernandes, the piece features rhythmic writing inspired by the visual artwork Cascata by artist Regina Silveira, evoking the flow and intensity of a rushing stream.
