Mazas: 30 Etudes Spéciales, Op. 36

Award-winning Brazilian conductor and violinist, Claudio Cruz presents in this album the special studies of French violinist, educator and composer Jacques Féréol Mazas. The pieces, originally written for the technical refinement of violin students, bring a hidden beauty, revealed by the immaculate performances of the artist.

These studies are widely known by all violin students, as they are considered an introduction to the violin repertoire of the Romantic period. The composers of the time, unlike the Baroque and Classical periods, began to explore and value more complex annotations and interpretations in the instrument’s dynamics, including innovative techniques.

“The studies by Mazas are very musical, they present elements that go beyond the simple mechanical execution of what is written in the scores…. For this reason, they are considered essential in the formation of a good violinist. Recording them was a welcome rediscovery, even for me” – Claudio Cruz
