Perhaps David Popper’s most moving work, Requiem, Op.66 was written by the Czech cellist and composer in 1892 and dedicated to the memory of his good friend and first music publisher, Daniel Rahter of Hamburg, in Germany.
The performance present in this single brings three of the most outstanding Brazilian cellists of the current classical music scene: Raïff Dantas Barreto, Mauro Brucoli and Moisés Ferreira, members of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipal Theater of São Paulo, accompanied by the young and talented pianist, Talita Gondim.
In this formidable record, the quartet’s precise and emotional performance reveals all the beauty and melancholy of the work, which in the exquisite execution of the instrumentalists gains subtle contours and memorable elegance.
