Joel Gisiger

The oboist Joel Gisiger began his musical journey at the Municipal School of Music in São Paulo in 1983, under the guidance of Washington Barella. Later, in 1989, he received a scholarship from the Vitae Foundation to study at the academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, where he was mentored by Lothar Koch.

He taught at prestigious national festivals, such as the International Music Festival of Brasília, Campos do Jordão, Poços de Caldas, and Novo Hamburgo. For two decades, he served as a faculty member at the Municipal School of Music in São Paulo, affiliated with the OSESP academy.

As a soloist, he performed with various orchestras, such as the Symphony Orchestra of Paraíba, the Symphony Orchestra of Rio Grande do Norte, and the State Symphony Orchestra of São Paulo (OSESP). Internationally, Joel stood out as a chamber musician at Charlottenburg Castle, in the Orchestra of the Academy by the Karajan Foundation, and in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

For thirty years, he established himself as the principal solo oboe of OSESP, performing in iconic venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Philharmonie in Berlin.

His passion for chamber music led him to coordinate the OSESP Wind Quintet and to found the Camargo Guarnieri Wind Quintet. Joel holds a Master’s degree in Music from the Federal University of Bahia.

“Joel Gisiger has long deserved the national oboe award…” – Folha de São Paulo.
