Two of the greatest classical music instrumentalists in Brazil – violinist, violist and conductor Claudio Cruz and cellist Raïff Dantas Barreto – unite in this memorable album, which honors the 250th birth anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven.
Musical genius and revolutionary composer, Beethoven became one of the most respected and influential composers of all time, a pillar of Western music, and a unique figure in history. Despite his scores being among the most performed in concert halls around the world, it is possible to find pieces of his authorship which are still little known to the public. That was one of the main reasons that motivated the two artists to make this album.
The carefully chosen repertoire reflects the integrity and excellence of the duo, in virtuous transcriptions for violin and cello, as in 3 Duets for Clarinet and Bassoon, WoO 27, and in prodigious interpretations, as in Duet for Viola and Cello in E -Flat Major, WoO 32 – Eyeglasses. Cruz alternates between violin and viola, building extraordinary dialogues with Dantas Barreto’s cello, confirming the impressive synergy of the duo.
