Between Light & Shadows

Presenting a style that adopts simple and minimalist performances, the composer and pianist from Rio de Janeiro, Isaiah Rizzo, reaches his second album BETWEEN LIGHTS & SHADOWS with 13 original instrumental songs.

Inspired by the principle of duality, the natural cycle between light and shadow, the album was conceived from a personal observation of the artist, as he walked at dawn, witnessing the division between night and day on the horizon. Organically, the themes were emerging and interconnecting in a continuum of transformation and construction.

The oneiric atmosphere of the compositions is already reflected in the first songs, essentially written in minor keys, more introspective, such as The Shape of Night, The Pale Moonlight and Yugen. In the second half of the album, Rizzo presents pieces in major keys, such as A Place for Us, Mother and Towards the Light, this last one ending the album with the same theme (in major key) of the opening track, The Shape of Night.  A cycle closure that brings with it, the fresh start… Rizzo recorded the songs in minor keys at night and those in major keys in the morning, observing and interpreting on the piano, his vision of the transience of time:

“Landscapes and feelings are shaped by concepts of time and finitude… And among all the events of natural paths, only light and shadows remain”. – Isaiah Rizzo
