MENTALIZE is the second album of Andre Matos’ solo career. It was mixed and produced by Sascha Paeth and co-produced by Corciolli and the artist himself, in recording sessions in Brazil and Germany. The album features 12 new songs and a remake of Angra’s Don’t Despair. In addition to Andre’s vocals and piano, the album’s line-up features Hugo Mariutti and André “Zaza” Hernandes on guitars, Luis Mariutti on bass, Fabio Ribeiro on keyboards, and the new member Eloy Casagrande on drums.
The lyrics address existentialist themes, human relations, thought power, quantum physics, dreams, and synchronicity. With the arrival of the new drummer, the band’s rhythmic base became even heavier and visceral, supporting the intricate guitar arrangements with precision and energy.
The vocals are a special highlight, where Andre’s solid musical background and talent are evident, justifying his nickname of “maestro of metal”. In a sense, even though the album features elements of progressive rock and is based on solid power metal foundations, it can be said that it is a more direct and quintessential work, with themes such as Leading On!, I Will Return, and the ballad A Lapse in Time.
