In ILUSIA, composer and keyboardist Corciolli rediscovers his rock origins, demonstrating in a true “tour de force” vigorous performances on synthesizers. Using several samplers of guitar, drums and bass, the musician builds true sound sculptures in his arrangements, achieving a sound that does justice to a complete band.
“My first influences in music came from progressive rock bands like Yes, Genesis and Pink Floyd, and also from heavier rock: Van Halen, Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin. In this album I had the opportunity to bring a little of those sound universes” – Corciolli.
Featuring eight instrumental themes, Corciolli composed, played and produced all the sounds in the album, inviting experienced drummer and session player Ramon Montagner and bassist Mauricio Oliveira (on three tracks) to complement the recordings. To add intensity and presence, Corciolli overlapped timbres of orchestral percussion and taikos to the basic arrangement. By using guitar samplers, he adapted his performance to the vision of a string instrument player: “It was not enough to use a good palette of timbres, it was also necessary to think of how a guitarist would play, adapting to the keyboard the chord positions, scales, and the whole feeling of execution… It was challenging and very gratifying to reach the result achieved”, he completes.
