Pianist from Rio de Janeiro, Clara Sverner has built one of the most successful and long-lasting careers in the Brazilian music scene. While still young, she was awarded in several international competitions, developing her skills at Mannes College of Music, in New York, with Leonard Shure, assistant to Artur Schnabel. A respected interpreter of the work of Mozart, Ravel and Chopin, Sverner was also primarily responsible for the rediscovery of the work of Glauco Velásquez and Chiquinha Gonzaga. In the field of popular music, her partnerships with João Carlos de Assis Brasil, Paulo Moura and Marcelo Camelo were remarkable.
In REMINISCENCES, VOL. 1 – a two-volume project produced by Corciolli – the pianist rescues pieces considered milestones in her artistic career since her adolescence. Her nostalgic, romantic and contemplative approach to this repertoire reveals feelings and emotions that are tenderly kept but never forgotten. Highlighting, above all, the aesthetic quality, the boldness of invention and the emotional content of the songs she performs, Sverner proves to be a creative and constantly evolving interpreter.
“Our option was to establish a more reflective and engaging atmosphere, which is necessary against the rush and superficiality of these days… And I’m very happy. At 83, I face a new way of releasing my work, reviving pieces that were important in my adolescence. May the music reach everyone, embrace everyone. May the music save us.” – Clara Sverner
