Suite: Nocturnal Archetype for Cello and Clarinet

Composer and music educator João Marcondes presents his album Suite: Nocturnal Archetype for Cello and Clarinet, featuring five original works written for clarinet and cello — a rare and expressive instrumentation that Marcondes has been exploring for over two decades. The creative journey began with the piece Sobre Lobos e Pássaros, composed in 2004 as a tribute to Tom Jobim and Heitor Villa-Lobos.

With Suite Nocturna, however, the composer delves into a denser and more introspective soundscape, marked by nocturnal atmospheres, silence, and inner tension. Through free phrasing and distinctive metrics, the works invite a deep and sensitive listening experience, guided by a subtle narrative thread.

The performances are delivered by Sérgio Burgani — principal clarinetist of the Osesp (Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo / São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra) — and Joel Silva de Souza, Doctor of Music and cello professor at Unesp (Universidade Estadual Paulista / São Paulo State University), who is also a member of the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de São Paulo (São Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra) and the Quarteto Camargo Guarnieri.
