Brazilian Fruits

Olga Kopylova, the principal pianist of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP), performs in this album as a tribute to the 30-year artistic journey of Brazilian composer and conductor Rodrigo Vitta, a collection of unpublished works written for the piano.

Divided into two parts, the album carefully captures Vitta’s artistic essence: In the first part, Brazilian Fruits, Piano Preludes, a profound dialogue is established with the masterful preludes of renowned composers from the past, re-exploring the tonal expansion through archetypal transformations of harmony. In these pieces, the composer applies new academic concepts that he has been developing, such as the “quadrifacial tritonization of the tonic.” In simpler terms, this refers to the application of specific dissonances at musically significant points in the work, “preventing” a more obvious tonal resolution.

In the second part, the pieces originally written for symphonies and operas by the composer, take on new life as they are adapted for solo piano, in clear exhortation to new sounds. Kopylova explores and interprets them with unique property, giving depth and significance to each one of them. Her meticulous and captivating interpretation reveals the intricate perspectives and nuances present in Vitta’s musical language, harmoniously complemented with the graphic art, created by the renowned artist Clovis Pareiko
