In orchestral arrangements featuring piano, cello, and violin, the composer and keyboardist presents themes inspired by the Brazilian imaginary.
Immersed in atmospheres that reverberate with affective memories, tropical aromas, and the vast cultural richness of the country, IMAGINARY BRAZIL weaves a unique mosaic of legends, stories, places, and characters from a deep and symbolic Brazil. The fusion between the tradition of European classical music, the pulse of African rhythms, and the sounds of the original indigenous peoples shapes the album with a striking and unique authorial identity.
Composed of 10 original works, it features soloists Pablo de León on violin and Raïff Dantas Barreto on cello—concertmaster and principal cellist of the São Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra. Featuring special appearances by Patricia Bastos, performing “Arandu Ara,” a composition with lyrics in Tupi-Guarani by writer and educator Kaká Werá Jecupé, as well as percussionist Kabé Pinheiro and guitarist Camilo Carrara.
Highlights of the repertoire include “Vila Rica,” inspired by the life and work of Aleijadinho, a genius of the Minas Gerais Baroque; “Eyes of the Jaguar,” based on an ancient legend of the Suruí people of Rondônia—according to which fire originally inhabited the eyes of jaguars until it was stolen by the mythical Orobab bird; and the poignant “Tears of the Rainforest,” an environmental warning about the devastation of Brazilian forests.
