More than a selection of seminal pieces in the classical music repertoire, arranged and performed by the Brazilian cellist Raïff Dantas Barreto, LIBERA ME is also a tribute to the musician’s most esteemed pieces, which have accompanied his artistic journey since childhood.
The process of conception and realization of the album was long, but pleasant, over the almost eight years of production, result of well-crafted transcriptions in arrangements for groups of four, five and eight cellos. Through the album, Dantas Barreto embarked on a sound journey in memories related to the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo, in addition to rescuing affective memories of his childhood, when he used to listen to Beethoven and other classical composers with his father.
By opting for interpretations centered on his own instrument, the musician created challenges for himself which he later completely overcame: from simple transpositions of tones to complete reformulations and adaptations of other instruments to the cello’s own textures. As a precise and versatile craftsman, he performed in several takes on the cello all the counterpoints, harmonies and melodies present in the repertoire, with rigor and sensitivity, in yet another confirmation of his technical refinement and deep emotionality.
