The album features French music pieces from the 19th century, composed by Camille Saint-Saëns, Edouard Lalo and Gabriel Fauré, here performed by Raïff Dantas Barreto on cello, and Davi Sartori on piano.
The live recording reveals subtle nuances in the duo’s concise execution, enhancing the refinement and sophistication of the repertoire. The first part brings the work Cello Sonata No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 32, composed in the last years of popularity by its author, the romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921). Then, the duo performs Élégie, Op. 24, by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924) – who was certainly one of the main composers of his generation, helping to define French music for the following centuries. In the third and last part, Dantas Barreto and Sartori bring the emblematic Cello Sonata in A minor, a work that shows a different (but no less excellent) face of the composer Édouard Lalo (1823-1892) – who notoriously dedicated most of his life to the repertoire of operas.
The duo demonstrates a rare synergy, performing the musical pieces with consistency and deep expressiveness. The choice of repertoire is prodigious, bringing renewed freshness and contemporaneity to the works performed.
